Biafra Independence: IPOB (Biafrans) March to United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland demand for Freedom

The Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) on Monday  February 15, 2016 staged a peaceful protest march in Geneva, Switzerland calling for the immediate and unconditional  release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and a referendum for independence from Nigeria.

The IPOB members condemned in its entirety the ongoing massacre of unarmed Biafran agitators and called the attention of world leaders to prevail on the Nigeria government to stop the provocative killings of Igbos in the south-east.

The Biafra Nationalists insisted on a referendum, a course of action, said one of the agitators, to free Biafrans from the  oppressive yoke of the Nigerian government.

His words, ”We are irrevocably committed to our call for a referendum to free our people from Nigeria. We are a people that have been marginalized, a people which the Nigerian government has committed several crimes against humanity on and this time around we have made up our mind to secede from Nigeria and there is no turning back”

”We shall carry this protest to the 27 countries that make up the EU (Europea Union) and indeed the rest of the world until they heed our pleas and prevail on the evil government in Nigeria to free our people”, one of the visibly  angry agitators also  told our reporter in Geneva.

On inquiry whether they will resort to armed struggle to actualize an independent Biafran State, they said they are in no move to disclose their next line of action to anyone for security reasons.

You will recall that an independent Republic of Biafra was declared in 1967 by the then Head of State General Odumegwu Ojukwu as a response to the genocide and massacre of  about a hundred thousand (100, 000) Igbos and other Easterners (Ijaw, Ibibio, Annang, efik etc) in different parts of Nigeria. The nation of Biafra lasted for 3 years after a bloody civil war of independence with Nigeria in which more than 3.5 million Biafrans were killed with more than 1million Biafran children killed.

In a similar development the leader of IPOB Mazi Nnamdi is currently in a Nigerian prison for soliciting for self determination for the people of Biafra. He was granted bail by a competent court of jurisdiction but the Nigerian Government headed by Buhari blatantly disobeyed the court order on Kanu’s release.
